Apperley Barn
Two existing agricultural barns sit side-by-side in the open countryside of Northumberland. Now no longer is use, the client wishes to redevelop these buildings into a single dwelling for their own. Sticking with the same volumes, and with materials that are sympathetic to the landscape, the resulting structure looks to its origins in agricultural language, while creating a comfortable dwelling that is modern and open. The immediate landscape will be sympathetically changed to promote new tree growth, planting and garden spaces to help the buildings nestle into the earth.
